immigrated to Canada at the age of 10 with her parents and three siblings, eventually settling in Edmonton, AB. She came from an artistic family and found an outlet for her creativity in the kitchen. It was there that her love affair with food began, and where she first tasted the immense pleasure that comes with presenting a delectable feast to an appreciative audience.
She went on to study home economics at university, but left school when she married the love of her life. Many years and three kids later, her love of food was still strong. Dagmar started to pursue it as a career, and opened the Sugarplum Pantry which grew to a business that included a retail outlet, a wholesale bakery, and a catering company.

the youngest of Dagmar's three kids, was only five when her mom's business opened in Edmonton. Some of her earliest memories are of working and playing in the Sugarplum Pantry...cracking eggs, peeling carrots and folding boxes. She literally grew up in the kitchen with her mom at her side. They forged a strong, loving bond over those long hours together. Their mutual love of creating delightful treats led Christina and Dagmar to work together for more than 15 years.
Deciding not to follow in her mom's footsteps, Christina pursued a degree in Environmental Sciences and went on to have a successful career in environmental consulting. But after her second son was born, she happily agreed to write a cookbook with her mom; realizing a life-long dream for Dagmar and re-igniting the love of cooking in Christina.
